The Proceedings of the Latvian Academy of Sciences is a peer reviewed scientific journal, published by the Latvian Academy of Sciences (LAS) since August 1947. Beginning with 1992, the journal appears in two independent sections, A and B. The scope of SECTION A covers social sciences and the humanities, and the scope of SECTION B covers natural, exact, and applied sciences. The editorial office of the journal is located in the building of the Latvian Academy of Sciences. The Editors-in-Chief of both sections are full members of LAS. Members of the Editorial Boards include LAS academicians and outstanding foreign scientists.

The languages of publication are Latvian, English and German. All articles are provided with Summaries in English.

The thematic scope covers cultural history and theory, philosophy, economics, history, archaeology, ethnic studies, demography, sociology, political science, linguistics, literary criticism, folklore studies, history and theory of art, bibliology, and science of science. Each issue publishes also accounts of the activities of the Latvian Academy of Sciences, or of other events pertaining to science life.

English is the language of publication since 1994. Section B publishes review articles, original papers, and short communications, as well as communications on the history of science, science life, scientific conferences, critique and bibliography.

The journal is indexed by Scopus, Web of Science, Biological Abstracts, Biosis Previews, AgBiotechNet, CAB Abstracts, Zoological Record Plus, Mathematical Reviews, Zentralblatt Math, Реферативный журнал ВИНИТИ (Referatyvnyi Zhurnal), AGRIS, AGRICOLA, The Summon, Google Scholar, and by others.
