ABOUT EUREKA

EUREKA is a Europe-wide network for industrial research and development. Its main aim is strengthening European competitiveness in field of R&D by promoting market-driven collaborative research and technology development, involving industry and research institutes across Europe, using advanced technologies. EUREKA projects are aimed to result in advanced, cost-effective and competitive:

Substantial feature of EUREKA is "bottom-up" approach. The initiative comes from the potential project participants - they select project themes. There are no centralized funds for project support. Each country finances their EUREKA project participants.

At present there are 37 countries and European Union (as organization) in EUREKA. Latvia is a full member of EUREKA Programme since July, 2000.

LATVIAN NATIONAL PROJECT COORDINATION CENTRE

Latvia has become a full member of international EUREKA organization in June, 2000.

The Latvian EUREKA National Project Coordination (NPC) Centre is located in:

FUNDING SYSTEM of EUREKA PROJECTS in LATVIA

There are no centralized European funds for EUREKA projects support. Each country finances its own participants of the projects. Each participant has to contact the EUREKA National project coordinator of his/her country to find out the available Funding schemes offered in his/her country.

In Latvia for Public Funding, administered by the Ministry of Education and Science, can apply:

The funding comes from the State budget “Science”.

The procedure of Public Funding is determined by “Regulations of Public Support for Execution of Projects in the Field of Research, Technology Development and Innovation in the Limits of EUREKA Programm”, Nr.678, issued by the Cabinet. The financial support is a direct subsidy. Funding is performed on a competitive basis. An applicant has to submit an application, a business plan etc. Each proposal is evaluated by at least four independent experts (scientific and economical).

The main criterion to get the subsidy is a positive evaluation of the experts. It is important that the project:

The financial support up to 50-75% of a participant's research costs is granted. The other amount has to be invested by the applying institution itself or from some other non-governmental source as a co-financing.

The highest support for a Latvian work group of one project EUREKA project is EUR130 000.00 from the eligible costs.
